Cannons and Corsets (A Civil War Novel) by Lee Wardlow

Cannons and Corsets (A Civil War Novel) by Lee Wardlow is a historical fiction novel set during the civil war. Cannons and Corsets (A Civil War Novel) by Lee Wardlow is a novel that will appeal most to a mixed audience of adults and mature young adults who enjoy historical fiction centered on the civil war time period. Cannons and Corsets (A Civil War Novel) by Lee Wardlow follows Raven Truth, daughter of Joseph Truth (a plantation owner), unlike most young women Raven was allowed to grow up learning to shoot, hunt, and ride alongside her brothers on the plantation. Also unlike most plantation owners her father insures that all of his slaves are treated with respect and not whipped. This all changes when Marikha is named as helping slaves get to the Underground Railroad.

Cannons and Corsets (A Civil War Novel) by Lee Wardlow is a well written historical fiction novel on the civil war period. I really liked the fact that Raven Truth’s father was a kind man even if he was a slave owner. I found his view on slavery interesting as he saw it as a needed evil for his plantation to profit, yet at the same time saw his slaves as human beings worthy of respect. There were a few moments in Cannons and Corsets (A Civil War Novel) by Lee Wardlow where I felt like my heart stopped. I really felt for the characters and I was always sad whenever one of them was hurt.
