Daffodils Still Grow

The Daffodils Still Grow: A Book for Grieving Daughters's Profile PhotoThe Daffodils Still Grow is a touching story of one girl learning to cope with the loss of her mother. The sun still shines and she watches girls with their pretty braided hair (just like hers used to be), but her mother is gone and she can’t understand how life goes on as if nothing changed. Then one spring day, the daffodils her mother planted bloom and the girl is reminded of the many ways her mother is still with her.

The Daffodils Still Grow is a full-color illustrated book that portrays life after a loved one dies as seen from the observations of a motherless child.

Review

I chose to read and review this book because as a psychology major I was interested in learning more about how children process, deal with, and cope with the loss of a loved one. I found this book to be not just informative, but also touching on an emotional level. I find myself actually having a few tears run down my face as I read about this poor little girl that had lost her mother and could not understand how the world could keep moving. My parents are both still alive, but I believe that even as an adult I would feel much like the little girl did if I were to lose a parent. Losing a love one is always tough no matter how old you are. However I feel like this book provided me with valuable insight into how children cope with the death of a loved one. The art in this book was amazing each picture was unique and each one offered a different message to the reader. I would recommend this book for anyone who is helping a young child deal with the death of a loved one.Below is a brief preview of the book.
